As per this response, the complete steps are:
1) Open up SDK Director (In Android Studio, go to Tools > Android > SDK Manager) and Download Intel x86 Emulator Accelerator (HAXM installer) if you haven't.
2) Now go to your SDK directory C:\users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager\
and run the file named intelhaxm-android.exe
.
In case you get an error similar "Intel virtualization engineering science (vt,vt-x) is not enabled". Go to your BIOS settings and enable Hardware Virtualization.
3) Restart Android Studio and so endeavor to start the AVD again.
Information technology might take a minute or 2 to bear witness the emulator window.

[edit] The Android developer page has been updated with an first-class guide to go an emulator upwardly and running. [/edit]
Install the Intel x86 Emulator Accelerator
using the Android SDK Director
If you have Android Studio installed, y'all can kickoff the SDK managing director via Tools -> Android -> SDK Manager.
The Android SDK Manager does not actually install HAXM, it just downloads information technology. In the top of the Android SDK director window, you can find where the installer is located on your PC. Delight open the subfolder extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager
, and run the installer manually: intelhaxm-android.exe
.
To utilise the intel HAXM, you need to have a CPU with virtualization support:
Before attempting to apply this type of acceleration, you lot should first determine if your development system'south CPU supports i of the following virtualization extensions technologies:
- Intel Virtualization Technology (VT, VT-ten, vmx) extensions
- AMD Virtualization (AMD-V, SVM) extensions
(only supported for Linux)
[edit] Equally of November 27, 2019, Google has released an emulator for AMD CPUs. [/edit]
If your CPU does not take virtualization back up, y'all could use an ARM emulator instead:
Yous can edit an existing, or add a new Virtual Device in the Android Virtual device Manager, and change CPU/ABI to ARM. If that choice is non bachelor, you may need to modify the target API of the Virtual Device, or download an ARM arrangement image for the API version you want using the Android SDK manager.

I was able to resolve my problem of the missing dispatch with the post-obit workflow on Windows 10, Lenovo, Intel Core i7 CPU:
Changed to the HAXM setup folder: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager
Opened a cmd (MS-DOS) shell Window and executed haxm_check.exe
to check whether CPU supports HAXM - information technology outputs in my example:
VT support -- yes NX support -- yes
And then, I knew this well-nigh be a setup trouble. And then, I started the setup program intelhaxm-android.exe
in the same folder with Admin account and removed the installed components. After that, I've attempted to re-install with the same setup program and got this output:
So, I went into the CPU section of the BIOS and turned on acceleration/Virtualization - went back to the setup program and re-ran it, this fourth dimension I was pleased to come across this output:
Later that, I restarted Android Studio and used Tools>AVD Director to ascertain a new epitome for an emulator. I was and so able to come across the emulator starting upward succesfully past clicking the play button in the list of emulators in the AVD Managing director'southward list:
or by - Opening a sample projection that compiles OK - using File > Sync Project with Gradle Files (to build all artifacts) - Select the app particular in the Android (TW) and click Run > Run 'app' - Select the previously configured Emaulator showed me this :-)
Hope this helps to troubleshoot others with their problems that are really caused past a bad setup implementation since the missing acceleration option was silently swallowed by the Android Studio setup program ... :-(

Simple Solution :
Open Android SDK manager, on top side y'all tin can see the "Android SDK Location
" become to that location and follow this path
\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager
hither y'all will become "intelhaxm-android.exe" install this setup.

If you are using an AMD CPU, AMD Virtualization (CPUs such every bit Ryzen) is now officially supported. Make sure you lot have virtualization switched on in the BIOS.
In "Plow Windows Features On or Off" (you tin can observe it through Windows Search), yous'll need to enable
- Windows Hypervisor Platform on Windows 10 17134.one (1803) April 2018 update or newer (ordinarily not mentioned in articles)
- Hyper-Five
Once you restart and commencement up the emulator (an x86 build), it should start booting up without the mentioned error.

On Mac, the Android SDK gets installed at: /Users/username/Library/Android/sdk/
, therefore, you will need to run the script as sudo, every bit follows:
sudo sh /Users/username/Library/Android/sdk/extras/intel/Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager/silent_install.sh
If all goes well, the script prints the message: "Silent installation Pass!"
Then, restart Android Studio and run your app with the desired AVD.

I wasted too much fourth dimension on this, I detect that the AVAST is the consequence!!!
If you have AVAST installed in you system, you have to:
Go to
settings
tab -->troubleshooting
, and then yous should UNCHECK the "enable hardware-assisted virtualization
"
Restart your PC, the install the intelhaxm-android.exe if it is not installed. You can detect information technology:
C:\Users\{YOURUSERNAME}\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager
~ Answered on 2015-10-23 17:33:51
Right click on your my calculator icon and the CPU will be listed on the backdrop folio. Or open device manager and look at the CPU. Information technology must be an Intel processor that supports VT and NX chip (XD) - you tin bank check your CPU # at http://ark.intel.com
Likewise brand certain hyperV off bcdedit /prepare hypervisorlaunchtype off
XD bit is on bcdedit /ready nx AlwaysOn
Use the installer from https://software.intel.com/en-united states of america/android/articles/intel-hardware-accelerated-execution-managing director
If yous're using Avast, disable "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization" under: Settings > Troubleshooting. Restart the PC and try to run the HAXM installation over again

A more detailed answer for dummies like me:
- Open up the SDK manager
- Select the SDK Tools tab.
- Download – Make certain that intel x86 Emulator Accelerator (HAXM) is downloaded.
- Install – Now that HAXM is downloaded, make certain information technology is installed. In the SDK window it will bear witness you lot where the SDK is located on your computer:
Click/tap 3 times quickly to highlight this text and copy the folder location. Open the file explorer and paste in the file location. From here y'all can search "hax" to detect the folder location for HAXM stuff. Once a file comes upward in the search results, right click and select "open file location". For me the location was C:\Users\Datu1\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager . Observe the file intelhaxm-android.exe and open/run it.
Follow the instructions when it runs. You may wish to run haxm_check as an administrator (it's in this same binder), merely it may or may not work for you lot. The surefire way to tell if yous can run hardware acceleration and if it's enabled is to become to your calculator'south bios settings from the startup menu.
-
BIOS settings – Brand sure hardware acceleration is enabled in your BIOS settings. The style to do this may vary a bit from system to system. You may demand to press f10 or esc on startup. Merely with most (updated) Windows 10 computers you can access the BIOS settings past doing the following: blazon "advanced startup" in the Windows search bar; click on "change advanced startup uptions:" when it comes up. Click "Restart now". After your figurer restarts click on Troubleshoot.
Click advanced options >firmware settings, so restart to alter EUFI firmware settings. Expect for the restart then select the carte du jour selection for bios settings. With Intel processors the steps will be as follows or similar: Press the right arrow to go to the Configuration tab. Arrow downwards to Intel Virtual/Virtualizaion Engineering and plough it on (should say Enabled).
Exit and save changes.
-
If Virtual Technology was previously disabled in your bios settings You will demand to run the intelhaxm-android.exe file at present to install haxm.
-
Try restarting Android Studio and running your emulator again. If it's nonetheless not working, restart your computer and try again, it should work.
NOTE: if y'all have Windows Hyper-5 turned on this will cause y'all to non exist able to run haxm. If you are having an issue with Hyper-V, make sure it is turned off in your settings: search in the Windows bar for "hyper"; the search effect should have yous to "Turn Windows features on or off". Then make sure all the Hyper-V boxes are unchecked.

I had the same consequence. In my case I found two issues causing the trouble
- I had Hyper-V running, I think if any Virtualization programs running you need to uninstall
- I was running under Standard Account / Non Administrator

One more possible reason: you lot installed HAXM and then updated BIOS settings past disabling virtualization. Or, updated BIOS version. Please check BIOS settings over again, and be sure virtualization enabled.

Windows Users Only
This is a bit late simply just figured that some answers are to go to the bios settings but for me, I was able to resolve this past just disabling the hyper-5 characteristic. We do this by following these steps:

I had the same issue even when hardware dispatch installed. My solutions was uninstalling and reinstalling it using SDK Manager. Brand certain you restart the Android studio after then.
~ Answered on 2019-03-22 04:28:15
This steps worked on Mint 17.two Rafaela:
- Open up a terminal and input this:
sudo apt-become install qemu-kvm
- Restart your pc and enable virtualization technology on your BIOS setup
- In terminal again, insert this:
sudo kvm-ok

This answer works for latest update on Windows x version 1709. Non tried with other version. Merely i hope it'll work.
I also ran into similar issue in my windows 10 system. I disabled Hyper-V and I tried all the answers posted hither. But afterward that also i faced the same consequence. So later on lot of try, made it work using an documentation available in haxm manual. The document menntioned to employ a tool named Device Guard and Credential Guard hardware readiness tool provided by Microsoft to disable Hyper-Five along with another features(Think not only Hyper-5. Then little cautios) completely. Follow the below steps to do that.
- Download the latest version of the tool from hither.
- Unzip.
- Open an elevated (i.e. Run as administrator) Command Prompt and run the below command by irresolute the extrated path and the respective version number.
@powershell -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Command "X:\path\to\dgreadiness_v3.6\DG_Readiness_Tool_v3.vi.ps1 -Disable"
- Reboot.
So if y'all endeavor to install intel haxm, it'll piece of work.
In example of latest update cheque the docs available in official intel haxm evolution link.
Hope it helps someone.

In the android sdk director it says that information technology has hardware accelerator already installed but I call back it is but downloaded not installed.I but manually installed the intelhaxm-android.exe and information technology worked for me.
plus I had docker installed , there were some answers to disable Hyper-V features, therefore I did that too, but not sure whether it helped or non.

I experienced the same issue, only after turning off Hyper-V and enabling VT-x on my BIOS I still couldn't install the intelhaxm-android.exe program.
To set up my issue I had to plough off Windows defender Memory integrity
check hither for steps -> https://github.com/intel/haxm/issues/105

For those who still have problems with this, you can endeavor using an culling Android emulator such equally Genymotion.
I'm using Ryzen five processor with latest Windows ten update installed (1809), but still tin can't install HAXM. So, what I did to resolve this was:
- Enable Hardware Virtualization in BIOS settings
- Enable Hypervisor Platform in Windows Feature
- Install Genymotion with Virtual Box -- select for personal use
- Install Genymotion Android Studio plugin -- discover this in Android Studio plugins settings
Y'all're good to get from here.
